Claressa Shields Vs. Savannah Marshall Target Date Announced

The anticipated Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall matchup is getting a few steps closer.

According to BOXXER founder and CEO Ben Shalomm, the fight will happen on September 3 and will come with random drug testing. They will be tested by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association.

Marshall is one of two fighters who has defeated Shields. The other fighter was Abigail Montes in a PFL matchup.

In 2012, Shields dropped an 18-14 decision to Marshall at their 2012 World Championships round-of-16 meeting.

But in pro boxing, Shields has yet to taste defeat, with 12 victories and two knockouts.

Marshall achieved title status in 2020 by scoring a seventh-round knockout over Hannah Rankin for the vacant WBO middleweight title, which belonged to Shields before dropping to junior middleweight.

Shields became the undisputed junior middleweight champion in 2020.

Marshall did her part in preserving a fight with Shield with a highlight-reel knockout of Femke Hermans on April 12.

“The fight’s got so big now that it needs an international venue,” Shalom told Sky Sports. “It will happen in the UK – all the venues want it. It’s going to be between Newcastle and London, we’ll see.”
