Co-Main Event, Tourney at GLORY 33
A five-fight card for GLORY 33 New Jersey is now set, as the co-main event of the evening has been announced, as well as matches for a one-night, four-man Featherweight Contender Tournament.
GLORY 33 New Jersey will be co-headlined by No. 5-ranked heavyweight Hesdy Gerges (49-16-1, 23 KO taking on Guto Inocente (31-7, 17 KO). Gerges’ last bout came back in June at GLORY 31 in Amsterdam, where he was defeated by Ismael Londt by split decision. Inocente, meanwhile, last competed at GLORY 30 in Los Angeles back in May. He won that bout against Brian Douwes by unanimous decision.
Four men will also compete in a one-night tournament, with the winner earning a future shot at GLORY Featherweight World Champion Gabriel Varga. The first match will see No. 2-ranked Serhiy Adamchuk (33-6, 16 KO), a former GLORY featherweight champion, faces off against No. 7-ranked Giga Chikadze (35-4, 21 KO). Adamchuk lost the featherweight title to Varga by majority decision back on July 22 at GLORY 32, while Chikadze enters winning three of his last four bouts.
In the other semifinal, Chibin Lim (69-19, 40 KO) takes on Matt Embree (37-7, 16 KO). Despite the numbers in Lim’s record, he has lost his only two bouts in GLORY; meanwhile, Embree makes his GLORY debut with this bout. The winners of these two bouts will meet later in the night to determine the top contender.
GLORY 33 will be headlined by Rico Verhoeven (48-10, 12 KO) defending his GLORY heavyweight title against Anderson "Braddock" Silva (40-14-1, 25 KO). A middleweight title bout between champion Simon Marcus (44-2-2, 24 KO) and challenger Jason "Psycho" Wilnis (28-6-1, 7 KO) will take place as part of the GLORY 33 SuperFight Series, airing exclusively on UFC Fight Pass.
GLORY 33 takes place from the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, New Jersey, on Sept. 9.
