Coach Fernand Lopez Admitted He Will Never Train Francis Ngannou Again – Not Even For $100K

Francis Ngannou‘s former coach Fernand Lopez is adamant that his time with Ngannou is over. He would rather train Gane for free than rejoin the “Predator” camp for $100,000.

Ngannou and Lopez have had a long history.

Lopez provided shelter to the Cameroonian during his early days in France. Ngannou immediately found a new home in Lopez’s gym and started to train there without any cost.

He slowly made a name for himself in the MMA scene under the guardianship of Lopez, with UFC eventually getting hold of him in 2015.

Before signing with the UFC, Ngannou had an impressive run across the Pacific, holding a record of 5-1.

In his very first appearance in the octagon, Ngannou left everyone in awe, and soon he secured his first title shot on MMA’s biggest stage. But came short against the experienced, Stipe Miocic in a championship bout.

And just seven months later, his second consecutive loss came at the hands of Derrick Lewis, which further worsened the matters, leading to a discourteous split of Ngannou from MMA Factory gym.

Now with Ngannou having mounted the heavyweight peak under the guidance of Eric Nicksick at Xtreme Couture, there is a new product hailing from the MMA factory that is hampering his forward progress.

In just three years, Gane has defeated the likes of Junior dos Santos, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, and Alexander Volkov and has set up a blockbuster unification bout with the ‘Predator’ next year at UFC 270.

Meanwhile, there has been bad blood brewing between the heavyweight king and MMA Factory with both camps often going back and forth at each other.

And it was all apparent at Madison Square Garden during UFC 268 when Gane and Lopez, who were cornering middleweight prospect Nassourdine Imavov, were left stranded with Ngannou walking past his former coach and teammates without even looking at them.

Soon after, this clip went viral with fight fans questioning Ngannou’s rather amusing behavior.

A week ago, Lopez attended “The MMA Hour” show with Ariel Helwani.

The 43-year-old discussed Ngannou’s snub and responded to those who think he is envious of Ngannou’s success at a new gym.

“Okay, let me put it simple. If I have to sit tomorrow with Francis, talk with him (and) work with him, about something else, not training, I can’t train with him, but I can do a bunch of things with him; it’s not a problem for me. Yeah, I will appreciate this to be the past because I don’t keep that in my mind,” he said.

“What is frustrating is the misunderstanding of what’s going on. It’s not the problem that we have or the issue that we have, the frustrating point is people do not know what’s going on and they’re like, ‘Oh, he’s jealous.’ Why should I be jealous? I would prefer, if they give me right now $100,000 to go train him (Ngannou) for 10 minutes or train Ciryl for free, I will train him (Gane) for free.”

Now with things heating up between the former teammates, the MMA fans can expect to be in for another treat on January 22 when the two giants will collide in the main event of UFC 270.
