Coach Kavanagh Teases UFC 249 Appearance Of McGregor

It is known that UFC 249 needs a new main event after UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov told the world he was stuck in Russia. This is a result of travel bans from Russia and the United States due to the coronavirus. If Dana White continues to move forward with the event on April 18, then Tony Ferguson needs a new opponent.

Justin Gaethje‘s name has floated around as a name,  but is there someone else the UFC has in mind? With recent posts by John Kavanagh coming to light, a big surprise may be heading our way.

The founder and head coach of SBG Ireland sent out a few tweets showing his calendar. The first one had April 18 highlighted, causing the internet to go crazy for a moment.

The second tweet showed the same calendar with s specific date blacked out.

“Sorry posted wrong image earlier. Point being it’s tough having no fights booked this month, however people going thru much worst than this. (Please dont share or screen capture old one, thank you)”

He is of course teasing the appearance of Conor McGregor to fight Ferguson. The two have been inseparable, with Kavanagh getting credited for helping turn McGregor’s life and career around. This comes after Dana stated that McGregor would most likely face the winner of the UFC 249 fight. He also stated that McGregor would most likely be the one to replace one of the two if something were to happen.

One of the problems with his recent postings is the timing. The coronavirus has affected the entire world, with all major sports coming to a halt. As stated before, travel into the United States is impossible, making it difficult for someone like Conor to get involved.  Conor has also been an advocate of social distancing, pleading to Ireland’s political personnel to make things right to stop the spread.

If it seems too good to be true, you are right. Kavanagh ended up posting on social media that this was all an April Fools’ joke.

“Happy #AprilFoolsDay everyone. I ain’t going anywhere, I’m stuck inside like the rest of you schmucks. For those who think my joke was cruel and unnecessary I’d like to take a moment to apologise…TO ABSOLUTELY NONE OF YOU!”

Unless a last-minute deal was made, it will be known as a pleasant joke during these dark times.
