Coach: Tony Ferguson Showed How Worried He Is About Charles Oliveira’s Size

Charles Oliveira’s coach believes Tony Ferguson tipped his hand.

Ferguson and Oliveira are scheduled to share the Octagon on Saturday night, December 12. “El Cucuy” recently said that he’s prepared to bail on fighting at UFC 256 if Oliveira fails to make weight. Oliveira has missed weight in the past but those were for featherweight bouts.

Speaking to Sherdog.com, Oliveira’s coach Diego Lima said Ferguson showed that he’s concerned about Oliveira’s size going into their lightweight clash.

“I am really happy with that statement from Ferguson. It just shows how worried he is about Charles’ size. It’s important to note that Charles had problems at featherweight but he never missed weight at 155. On Wednesday morning he woke up weighing 162 pounds. We still have two days left to lose seven pounds.”

Ferguson is hoping to rebound from his first defeat in eight years. Back in May, Ferguson suffered a fifth-round TKO loss at the hands of Justin Gaethje. “El Cucuy” had his 12-fight winning streak snapped.

As for Oliveira, this is perhaps the closest he has come to a title opportunity. A win over Ferguson would put him right in the mix for a UFC Lightweight Title opportunity. In fact, “do Bronx” believes he should be the number one contender if he defeats “El Cucuy,” who is a former interim champion.

Oliveira is riding a seven-fight winning streak. He hasn’t suffered a loss since December 2, 2017. The one knock on Oliveira is that he can’t emerge victorious when there are high stakes involved. It won’t be long before fight fans find out if “do Bronx” can silence the doubters.
