Cody Garbrandt Hopes To Fight Jose Aldo In April
Cody Garbrandt is eyeing to fight living legend Jose Aldo this spring.
Garbrandt was on track to challenge Deiveson Figueiredo for the UFC Flyweight Title in late 2020. “No Love” was forced out of the match due to a torn bicep. While many expected Garbrandt to get the title opportunity upon his return, Brandon Moreno’s draw with Figueiredo may line him up for an immediate rematch.
Speaking to Aaron Bronsteter, Garbrandt revealed that he’s open to having a bantamweight clash with Aldo in April.

“That’s a great fight for me. It’s Jose Aldo man, the guy’s a legend. No ill will toward the guy, I’m just a competitive guy who wants to fight the best. He looked good in his last fight. Prior to that I feel like he beat Marlon. It’s a great fight.”
Garbrandt last competed back in June 2020. He knocked out Raphael Assuncao in the second round. The victory snapped a three-fight skid for “No Love.”
Aldo last fought in December. He picked up the win over Marlon Vera via unanimous decision. Like Garbrandt, Aldo also snapped his own three-fight losing streak.
It’ll be interesting to see if the UFC decides to book Garbrandt in another bantamweight fight or if the decision-makers will have Garbrandt wait for his shot at the 125-pound gold. At the time of this writing, Garbrandt is the number three-ranked UFC bantamweight, while Aldo holds the sixth spot.
