Colby Covington Overlooking Jorge Masvidal For Trilogy Fight Vs. Kamaru Usman
Colby Covington is already looking past Jorge Masvidal,
Covington attended the UFC 270 weigh-in and said he hopes a victory against Masvidal, his former friend, gets him another shot at Kamaru Usman’s title.
“There’s no one that’s on his level that can compete with him as I can, so this fight needs to happen again. There needs to be a trilogy because he hasn’t proved that he’s the better fighter.”
“He hasn’t proved that he’s the best welterweight in the world, and there’s still unfinished business there. So I think after I finish Jorge Masvidal on March 5th, it puts me right back in line to get my title shot,” he said.
Covington will fight with Masvidal in a five-rounder nontitle, fight on UFC pay-per-view, headlining UFC 272.
Usman and Covington shared the octagon two times already, and Usman won both battles.
Usman earned knockout victory in the final round after having a war for the whole fight in the first meeting. Usman could not finish Covington in their second bout, but he was close after knocking down Covington twice in several seconds.
