Edwards successfully defended his UFC Welterweight Title with a unanimous decision win at UFC 296 in December. It was the third time Covington came up short in a world title fight. Covington’s pre-fight comments increased the pressure on him to perform. He referenced Edwards’ late father, who had been murdered, in his trash talk.
Edwards responded by throwing a water bottle. Covington could not back up his trash talk as he initially blamed inactivity for his loss. He had not fought since beating Jorge Masvidal in March 2022 at UFC 272. He then changed the narrative, saying he broke his foot after Edwards blocked his kick with his elbow. Covington justified the decision not to tell his corner, claiming the information would be televised and given to Edwards’ team.
Colby Covington reveals X-Ray of his broken foot from his fight with Leon Edwards at UFC 296. 🤕

“The result wasn’t what I wanted, it wasn’t my night. I broke my foot right away and I couldn’t plant or explode off it to use the wrestling and pressure I planned to use. I didn’t want to disclose this information until I had the X-rays. I knew straight away it was bad,” Covington said
Now, he has shared an X-ray of the alleged broken foot to convince fans he was injured.
I don’t have any interest in seeing that fight again. I don’t care if he got hurt. He’s older now and the fight sucked. Just give him some fun matchups for him to close out his career on.

Colby ain’t gettin a rematch anytime soon buddy. The fight wasn’t even competitive. He needs to atleast beat a Shavkat level opponent before there’s any hype for him fighting for a title again.
