Collard Defeats Burgos In A Close Battle To Advance To PFL Lightweight Finals

During the 2023 PFL Playoffs 3, Clay Collard beat Shane Burgos in their lightweight semi-final via a unanimous decision.

In the opening round, Collard’s increased output was causing Burgos trouble as he targeted the head and body with numerous combinations.

In response, Burgos connected with some kicks, but it was Collard who dominated the opener.

The second round was much the same as Collard’s striking drew blood from Burgos’ face. The latter fired back with kicks on the inside, which caused Collard to go off balance.

However, that was a momentary blip as Collard responded with a left hook that sent Burgos to the floor. Although he aimed for the finish, Burgos survived the round.

In the final round, both fighters exchanged in an attempt to gain an advantage. Collard attempted a takedown that was prevented, as Burgos’ kicks started to gain momentum.

The two traded until the final bell, but it was Collard who shaded it on the cards: 29-28, 29-28, 29-28.

As a result, Collard will now face Olivier Aubin-Mercier in the finals which will take place on November 24th, 2023.
