Conor Benn, Mario Barrios Among Five Boxers Dropped From WBC Rankings

Five boxers have been removed from their WBC rankings.

The WBC has booted Conor Benn, Mario Barrios, Mauricio Lara, Lee McGregor and Chris Billam-Smith from its rankings for not joining the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) clean boxing program.

“The WBC have announced that Conor Benn, Mario Barrios, Mauricio Lara, Lee McGregor and Chris Billam-Smith have been removed from their rankings this month as they have not registered for the VADA Clean Boxing Programme. They still have the opportunity to enrol and be reinstated,” Michael Benson of talkSPORT reported.

Barrios was ranked No. 10, Lara No. 4, McGregor No. 9 and Billam-Smith No. 7.

Benn, Barrios and Lara have had some buzz about them in the media lately.

Benn is coming off a knockout win over Chris Algieri in December; Barrios is set to return against former champion Keith Thurman in February and Lara’s last two fights versus Josh Warrington where he scored a TKO in the first meeting while the second ended in a technical decision.

But should these boxers enroll in the program, their rankings will be reinstated.

VADA was established in 2011 to promote anti-doping programs in boxing and MMA through testing and education.

Among the boxers who are enrolled in the program are Vasiliy Lomachenko, George Kambosos Jr and Teofimo Lopez, to name a few.

However, if they don’t appear for VADA’s clean boxing program, they could lose their rankings in other boxing organizations as well.
