Conor Benn (24-1, 14 KOs) has named newly crowned WBC Welterweight Champion Ryan Garcia as his primary target for his first fight since signing a promotional deal with Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing.
The call-out follows Benn’s decision to leave Matchroom Boxing for Zuffa and Garcia’s career-best performance this past Saturday, February 21, where he beat Mario Barrios via a dominant unanimous decision at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Benn was ringside to watch the fight, although Garcia called out WBO Junior Welterweight Champion Shakur Stevenson.
After avenging his only career loss by defeating Chris Eubank Jr. in a rematch last November, the Brit is looking to capitalize on his momentum and his new $15 million Zuffa contract by targeting the biggest fights. Benn made it clear that a world title is a priority, as Devin Haney, Shakur Stevenson and Rolando Romero are other alternatives.
“I can’t say I was impressed. I am no Barrios. I’d give him hell in there. My goal is still to get the world title,” Benn said
