Conor McGregor Tops Forbes List For Highest-Paid Athlete In 2021
Conor McGregor has made the most money for any athlete in 2021 thus far.
McGregor is the former UFC “Champ-Champ.” While his fight purses are enough to make him rich, the “Notorious” one truly makes his money on the business side of things. Namely, the sale of Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey for $600 million.
McGregor topped names such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Dak Prescott, and LeBron James. Here’s what Forbes had to say about McGregor’s $180 million earning him the top spot for the highest-paid athlete in 2021.
“Conor McGregor’s appearance at UFC 257 in January wasn’t the triumphant return he had hoped for—Dustin Poirier knocked him out in McGregor’s first UFC fight since January 2020—but he collected an estimated $22 million for his time. The real moneymaker was his sale of whiskey brand Proper No. Twelve, buttressing an endorsement portfolio that includes DraftKings, the video game Dystopia: Contest of Heroes, and the lifestyle brand Roots of Fight.”
McGregor will make even more money for his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier scheduled for July 10. The bout will headline UFC 264 inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. UFC President Dana White claims the event will be at full capacity, so McGregor will likely earn even more than the $22 million he made for the Poirier rematch.
