Cooper-Dern Still On For UFC 224

Even though Mackenzie Dern missed weight by an astonishing seven pounds, her fight with Amanda Cooper is still on for UFC 224.

Cooper spoke with MMA Fighting on Friday following the controversial weigh in, and told Ariel Helwani that she knew this was gonna happen.

“Of course it’s frustrating, but I knew it was going to happen,” said Cooper.

“I came mentally and physically prepared to fight so that’s what’s going to happen. I can beat this girl. I’ve trained too hard and too much for it not to happen. I am always going to make the weight and fight, I am a professional.”

The fight was originally set to be a strawweight fight on the evening’s main card, but now will be a catchweight fight with Dern walking into the weigh in at 122 pounds, when the limit was 115 pounds.

Dern will now be fined 30 percent of her show money (10 by CABMMA, 20 percent by the UFC), which will go directly to Dern, who is ready for a fight.

“I never thought about saying ‘no’ to the fight. I told my coaches days ago that if she didn’t make weight I wanted the fight. I just got back in the tub and knew I had to make weight for the fight to stay on.”
