Cormier Saddened By Velasquez’s Retirement

There is no bigger fan of newly-minted WWE star Cain Velasquez than Daniel Cormier.

The former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion has made note of how much his teammate has helped him throughout their respective careers, so much so that when Cormier arrived to the UFC, he went down to light heavyweight as to not fight Velasquez.

“It’s a sad day when Cain Velasquez retires. But I know that he is doing something that he loves,” Cormier said of Velasquez signing a multi-year agreement with the WWE last week. “I remember watching him at [WWE] Elimination Chamber and you can see that this was something that he could love, I am not sure he ever fell for something faster, well except for when he met [his wife] Michelle.”

“I’m very happy for Cain and Michelle and the kids. But the biggest winner in this whole deal is the WWE Universe, they are in for a treat watching Cain perform. I’m excited to see the program between him and Brock. Congratulations to my brother. Exciting times.”

With Velasquez and Lesnar firmly planted in multi-year deals with the publicly traded wrestling company, Cormier may look to move on to the WWE upon his retirement, which will be sometime in 2020 following a trilogy with current UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.
