Cormier: Velasquez Greatest UFC Heavyweight

Even though he may be the UFC heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier feels that Cain Velasquez is still the best in the UFC’s heavyweight division, possibly of all-time.

Velasquez, who held the UFC heavyweight title on two occasions, has not fought inside the Octagon in over two years, due to various injuries.

Even with the long layoff, Cormier still sees the greatness in the former heavyweight champ.m.

“The reason the fight was so easy today was because for the last 8 weeks I’ve been getting beat up by Cain Velasquez,” Cormier said of his preparation for Miocic at the UFC 226 post-fight press conference.

“He’s still the best, man. He’s the best heavyweight the UFC has ever seen. He does things that you just don’t expect somebody to do. Still, outta shape, he comes in here and does three or four rounds with me – and I’m exhausted.”

Cormier spoke with Velasquez following the new champ’s first round knockout of Stipe Miocic at UFC 226, and persists that he would never consider fighting his friend and teammate for the heavyweight title.
