Cormier Wants Shogun Next

If its not Brock Lesnar who faces Daniel Cormier next, the now two division UFC champion may get a crack at Mauricio Rua.

Cormier, fresh off of winning the UFC heavyweight title from Stipe Miocic at UFC 226, was on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday, and said he’d be open to fighting Rua next.

Rua would first need to win his next scheduled fight against Anthony Smith at UFC Hamburg, after Smith stepped in for Volkan Oezdemir.

Rua last fought in March 2017, when he knocked out Gian Villante. The 36-year-old is riding a three-fight winning streak, which also includes victories over Corey Anderson and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

Cormier plans on retiring next March, and has mentioned Jon Jones, Miocic, Lesnar,  Alexander Gustafsson and as of Monday, Mauricio Rua, as future opponents.
