Coronavirus Forces ONE Championship To Alter Another Event

Any events that are planning on taking place overseas are expected to be dealing with the wrath of the coronavirus. Not event MMA is safe. According to ONE Championship’s Chatri Sityodtong, ONE’s upcoming show in Vietnam has been postponed.

Additionally, ARES Fighting Championship announced their upcoming ARES 2 event in Belgium will be taking place in October instead of April.

In a post on Facebook, Chatri had the following to say:

“NEWS ALERT: After discussing all options with the Vietnam Government, my team and I have decided to postpone ONE: Heart of Heroes on March 20 in Ho Chi Minh City. The event will now take place on June 26, assuming the coronavirus situation eases. Bar none, the safety of our fans, athletes, staff, partners, and public are the highest priority for ONE Championship. On a positive note, I am super excited to make the biggest announcement of 2020 (so far) next Friday March 13. Stay tuned! #WeAreONE”

ONE: Heart of Heroes was expected to take place on March 20 inside Phu Tho Indoor Stadium. This is not the first ONE event that had to deal with a major change due to the coronavirus. February’s ONE: King of the Jungle event was closed off to the fans as a precaution.

According to the latest from CNN, there are over 108,000 cases of the coronavirus around the world, with over 3,800 deaths.
