Costa To Be Cageside For Adesanya-Romero At UFC 248

There will be some added drama to UFC 248 this weekend. Paulo Costa, ranked second in the UFC’s middleweight divison, will be cageside for Israel Adesanya’s Middleweight Title bout against Yoel Romero.

Originally meant to face Adesnya instead of Romero, Costa (13-0) underwent biceps surgery. He was supposed to be good for a December return but had to be pushed back to April.

“I’ll be there to see if Adesanya can beat Romero like I did,” Costa stated to MMA Fighting. “Everybody wants to see that, if he can beat Romero or not. I believe Adesanya himself feels he has to prove he can beat Romero, too, so I’ll be there watching.”

Adesnya (18-0) called out Costa after he won the title from Robert Whittaker at UFC 243 back in October. The 28-year-old was also cageside for that event. Costa has history with Romero (13-4) as well, as “The Eraser” beat Romero at UFC 241 via unanimous decision. That was the last fight for Romero before getting the title opportunity.

Now appearing healthy, Costa is ready to scout his next opponent, whoever it may be.

“I’ll be able to train everything,” Costa went on to say. “I’ll be there, front row, at UFC 248. Let’s see who’s next.”

UFC 248 takes place on March 7 from inside the T-Mobile-Arena in Las Vegas. The co-main event will be Weili Zhang v. Joanna Jędrzejczyk for Zhang’s UFC Strawweight Championship.
