Miguel Cotto’s upcoming pay-per-view fight with James Kirkland has reportedly been cancelled. According to our sources, Cotto-Kirkland will not go forward on February 25 as scheduled.
EDIT: An injury to James Kirkland is rumored to be the reason for the fight’s cancellation. Per Roc Nation, Kirkland fractured his nose in training.
Cotto (40-5) and Kirkland (32-2) were both returning after losses to Mexican star Canelo Alvarez. Their fight was set for an HBO pay-per-view, a decision that angered some of the boxing community.
Now, it appears the fight will not be taking place at all, at least on Feb. 25. The rest of the card, including the return of champion Guillermo Rigondeaux, is also cancelled.
Stay tuned for updates on Cotto-Kirkland as more information becomes available.
