Covington Blasts Till’s UFC 228 Effort
Following Darren Till’s submission loss at UFC 228, former UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington hopes that Till’s sacrifices were worth the loss.
During an appearance on The Luke Thomas Show on Monday, Covington mocked Till for not only missing weight in two prior UFC fights, but possibly disregarding both his pregnant girlfriend and his daughter when he said his sole focus was being a champion (Till would later explain how that was taken out of context.)
“Till’s just an overrated doughboy that had a whole lot of hype,” Covington said. “He talked the talk, but he couldn’t walk the walk like me, so he needs to leave it to the big boys. He beat a crippled old ‘Clownboy’ and got a gift in his hometown against the ‘Choirboy’. He should have never been rewarded with a title shot for missing weight in a third of his UFC fights.
“Good thing he neglected his family to land a hot zero significant strikes in two rounds.”
Covington would then take aim at Kamaru Usman, who was the stand-in for either Till or UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley if they were unable to step inside the Octagon. Covington would claim that is the closest that Usman will ever get to a title fight.
“That broke b***h ‘Marty’ ain’t even in the picture,” Covington said. “What happened to that feeling in his soul that he was going to be champ last weekend? Ha ha, Saturday night was the closest he’ll ever get to a title fight and that’s front row like the mark he is. That b***h is my biggest fan. He talks a lot of s**t about me, but he won’t do s**t but keep watching my greatness from the sidelines, junior.”
