Covington Will Fight Woodley-Till Winner

Because he wasn’t able to recover quick enough for a unification bout with UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley tonight, Colby Covington will be stripped of the interim title the moment Woodley’s title defense against Darren Till begins.

But that doesn’t mean he’s lost his place in the contender rankings. Per UFC President Dana White, Covington will get a title shot against the winner of Woodley vs. Till.

Kamaru Usman was present at UFC 228 as a backup in the event either Woodley or Till failed to make weight.

“Colby Covington is going to get the next shot,” White told BT Sport. “Usman got the opportunity [as a backup] because Covington is hurt.”

Covington defeated Rafael dos Anjos for the interim welterweight title back in June in the co-main event of UFC 225.
