Crawford Nearly Fought 1 More Time After Canelo

Three-weight undisputed champion Terence Crawford (42-0, 31 KOs) revealed he considered one more fight before he announced his retirement.

The 38-year-old retired last December after beating Canelo Alvarez to become undisputed at 168, making him a three-weight undisputed champion in September 2025. Bud made it clear that financial discipline and long-term planning have made a return unnecessary.

By managing his eight-figure purses from the Errol Spence Jr. ($25 million) and Canelo Alvarez ($50 million) bouts, he has secured his future. However, he was tempted to move down to 160 with the aim of chasing undisputed in a fourth weight class and become six-weight world champion.

That would have required him to face the WBO and IBF Middleweight Champion Janibek Alimkhanuly. Janibek, though, failed a VADA test, resulting in his IBF title being stripped. That meant the fight no longer made sense for Crawford.

“Now we beat Canelo. Now what? At first, I was like well, go down to 160 and do it again. [Six weight champion] and four division undisputed. But Janibek popped,” Crawford said
