Crawford Says He Will Face Madrimov On August 3

Terence Crawford appears to have confirmed his next fight, a WBA Junior Middleweight Clash with Israil Madrimov, for August 3.

Reports indicated talks were underway for a clash at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Crawford has not been in the ring since stopping Errol Spence Jr. last July. The win made him the first Undisputed Welterweight Champion of the four-belt era.

A Spence rematch failed, while a fight with Canelo Alvarez never happened. Crawford is the WBO mandatory at 154 for Sebastian Fundora, who holds the WBO and WBC Junior Middleweight Belts. Fundora will likely face Tim Tszyu first in a rematch, leaving Crawford with Madrimov. Madrimov is undefeated and holds the WBA Junior Middleweight Belt.

He is coming off a fifth-round TKO victory over Magomed Kurbanov, which secured him the title. Reports stress the Saudis are supporting the fight, with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing promoting it, hinting at a further collaboration between the Saudis and Crawford. While Jermell Charlo was reportedly enacting his WBA Champion In Recess status, giving him priority over Crawford, it appears Bud has gotten the go-ahead instead.
