Crawford vs. Kavaliauskas Live Results
Top Rank Boxing returns to New York’s Madison Square Garden for its annual December event at the venue, and the promotion brings three big fights to top this night.
In the main event, Terence Crawford, one of boxing’s best pound-for-pound fighters, puts the WBO welterweight championship on the line against Egidijus Kavaliauskas (aka the “Mean Machine”).
After becoming the undisputed junior welterweight champion in 2017, Crawford moved up to 147 and claimed the WBO title with a win over Jeff Horn in June 2018. Since then, he has successfully defended the belt against Jose Benavidez Jr. and Amir Khan. Kavaliauskas, meanwhile, is unbeaten and won every fight he had before a majority draw with Ray Robinson in March.
The co-feature will see Richard Commey defend the IBF lightweight championship against Teofimo Lopez.
Commey won the IBF title by stopping Isa Chaniev in two rounds in February, but a broken hand prevented a showdown with another one of boxing’s pound-for-pound best, unified lightweight champ Vasyl Lomachenko. After retaining against Ray Beltran in June, Commey now has the chance to once again possibly get this fight with Lomachenko — but it’s something Lopez wants just as bad.
At 14-0, Lopez has already fought and won three times this year, knocking out Diego Magdaleno and Edis Tatli in February and April, respectively, before defeating Masayoshi Nakatani by decision in a July title eliminator.
This card will also feature Michael Conlan facing Vladimir Nikitin in a rematch of their encounter during the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which Nikitin won by a highly controversial judges’ decision.
