Crawford Will Beat Spence – Says Freddie Roach
Freddie Roach has backed Terence Crawford to beat Errol Spence Jr.
Both welterweights will face each other on July 29th, 2023, for the undisputed welterweight championship.
The winner will become the first undisputed champion of the four belt era. As of now, Crawford is seen as the slight favorite heading into the fight which could arguably go either way.
However, for Roach, Spence’s recent ordeals out of the ring may prove problematic. The ‘Truth’ had to overcome two car accidents, one of which resulted in his retina being detached.
In addition, Spence’s last fight was a hard-fought win over Yordenis Ugas with a 10th round stoppage.
And in the process, Spence has had a 15-month lay-off since then. In contrast, Crawford eased to victory over David Avanesyan in his previous fight with a sixth-round stoppage.
And given that Crawford is known for his versatility, these factors could end up being decisive.
“I have Crawford. He goes out there with his game plan; he might turn southpaw in the first or second round. But he carries through.
“I like him a lot, I think he’s one of the best fighters in the world today. I think he’s more thoughtful; he sets up the counterpunch really well. His opponent is obviously there and aggressive, but Spence has had a rough life over the past year or so,” Roach
