Crawford’s Callout Comeback Tease
Terence Crawford (42-0, 31 KOs) teased a return to boxing against Jaron Ennis (36-0, 32 KOs) only to walk it back when ‘Boots’ responded positively to the call-out.
The 38-year-old Crawford retired in December 2025, three months after his unanimous decision win over Canelo Alvarez at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to capture the super-middleweight undisputed crown.
Though Crawford expressed interest in challenging Janibek Alimkhanuly for his middleweight world titles, which could have made ‘Bud’ a six-division champion, he decided to hang up his gloves.
This week, though, he seemingly considered coming out of retirement to face unified super-welterweight champion Jaron Ennis, however when Ennis responded with interest, Crawford said he was just trying to test “Boots”.
“I was just trying to see if you was really ducking Vergil Ortiz, now I see,” Crawford said to Ennis. “You said you belt hunting. Now I don’t have a belt so what the excuse now? I wanna hear this.”
The exchange come off the heels of a heated on-air confrontation between the two during Andy Ruiz Jr.’s failed heavyweight comeback against Damian Knyba on September 4. Crawford told Ennis he would ‘step’ on him if they ever fought, and argued Ennis still needs wins over names like Vergil Ortiz Jr. before earning full credit.
Ennis became a unified super welterweight world champion in only his second fight in the division, beating Xander Zayas by seventh-round technical knockout on June 27. Ennis is looking to pick up another belt in the 154-pound division by years’ end against either IBF champion Josh Kelly or WBC champion Sebastian Fundora.
