Cris Cyborg Open To Fighting Kayla Harrison At Lightweight
Cris Cyborg has expressed her willingness to share the cage with Kayla Harrison.
Cyborg is the Bellator Women’s Featherweight Champion. Harrison competes under the PFL banner. She will enter the 2021 season in the women’s lightweight division. She is looking to win her second season title as she won the 2019 title.
James Lynch has a show with Cyborg called The Catch Up. During a recent edition, the 145-pound champion said she’s open to a showdown with Harrison (h/t MMAFighting.com).
“I believe this year she’s gonna fight for PFL, she’s gonna be in a tournament at 155, and if she becomes the champion of this tournament, for sure I would like to make a match with her that all the fans would like to watch.”
Cyborg went on to say that competing at 155 pounds has been a dream of hers.
“I would like to go to ‘55. Before I retire, I want to help build the division and if she is young, let’s see if she would like to do a match, one real match for her. . .I’ve never had the opportunity. All the people told me go below, below, below. For me, I walk 170, 175. . . I never had the chance. This is one dream that could come true.”
Harrison recently tested the waters at featherweight. She made her 145-pound debut under the Invicta FC banner with permission from the PFL. She defeated Courtney King via second-round TKO to improve her perfect pro MMA record to 8-0.
Cyborg is coming off her first successful Bellator title defense. She submitted Arlene Blencowe via rear-naked choke in the second round.
