Cris Cyborg Says Kayla Harrison Turned Down The Fight

Cris Cyborg has claimed Kayla Harrison rejected an offer to fight in the PFL.

Both fighters were linked with a fight in 2021, as Harrison was close to joining Bellator. But the PFL matched the offer, and she ended up staying. The PFL’s acquisition of Bellator raised hopes the fight could happen. PFL chairman Donn Davis was confident that the fight would go ahead this year.

The Bellator featherweight champion also spoke about how she would retire once a fight with Harrison was secured.

“I talked to my team, we want to do big fights and I think that Kayla Harrison should be next. Cat Zingano was a great fight, I could have finished my career with that one, but I think Kayla Harrison is another great one. I could finish my career after that, too,” Cyborg said

Unfortunately, Cyborg has ruled this out, claiming she had agreed to all the terms only for Harrison to turn it down.

Cyborg is currently preparing to box Kelsey Wickstrum on January 19, 2024. Her current record stands at 2-0 as she faces the unbeaten Wickstrum. Cyborg could also take on Larissa Pacheco and Leah McCourt in other MMA bouts.

Pacheco has won her last ten PFL fights, making her a dangerous opponent. McCourt was set to face Cyborg for her Bellator featherweight title. However, the PFL’s acquisition of Bellator delayed those plans. Cyborg has options, but a Harrison fight is off the table for now.
