Cris Cyborg Will Box Kelsey Wickstrum On January 19th

Cris Cyborg will make her boxing return against Kelsey Wickstrum at WFC 163, California, on January 19th, 2024, in a six-round fight at junior middleweight.

The Bellator featherweight champion’s last fight in any form was against Cat Zingano at Bellator 300. Cyborg secured a first-round-stoppage victory. Prior to that, a win followed over Arlene Blencowe at Bellator 279. Thereafter, Cyborg indicated that a return to boxing was on the cards.

“I would like to do a boxing fight. It’s the perfect time for me. I can do that. I’m ready. I want to do that. It’s a challenge. In the beginning of my career, before I was doing MMA, I was doing boxing. I’ve competed in wrestling, Muay Thai, BJJ, but I’ve never had a boxing opportunity, and before I finish my career, for sure, this is one of my dreams,” Cyborg said

As of now, Cyborg has two boxing bouts under her belt. A win over Jennifer Colomb was then followed up by a loss to Jorina Baars in her last fight. Meanwhile, her opponent remains undefeated in the ring. Wickstrum’s record stands at 2-0, with wins over Stevie Jane Coleman and Sudana Moore, respectively.

Comments

“Kelsey is two years younger than me, started her professional fighting career before me, and will be a good test for me inside the boxing ring. I am still learning the sport of Boxing.I am not looking to take any shortcuts in my path to a World Title in Boxing and this is the next step. When I finally get that opportunity at a Boxing World Title I will be ready,” Cyborg said
