Cro Cop & Nelson Will Be Grand Prix Alternate

At Thursday’s press conference for Bellator 198, Bellator President Scott Coker made a big announcement regarding the main event of Bellator 200.

At the press conference for one of the final first round matches of the Heavyweight Grand Prix, Coker stated that the Bellator 200 main event of Mirko Cro Cop and Roy Nelson will act as an official alternate fight for the tournament.

“That will be for the first alternate spot,” Coker said. “Whoever wins will be the alternate for the tournament in case somebody gets injured.”

With Matt Mitrione (who defeated Nelson) and Chael Sonnen already set for the second round, only two fights remain in the opening round, starting with April 28th’s clash between Fedor Emelianenko and former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir.

Cro Cop will be making his debut inside the Bellator cage on May 25th in the fight with Nelson, who looks to not only reenact his UFC 137 win on Cro Cop, but also get a second chance in the tournament.
