Curtis Blaydes Vs. Derrick Lewis Reportedly Set For November UFC Event
Now that Stipe Miocic has finished off Daniel Cormier, the line for potential heavyweight contenders is finally moving forward. Two top fighters within the division will look for their chance to shine within the division.
ESPN was the first to report that Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis will face off against one another on November 28. It is unknown if this fight will determine one of the contenders for the UFC Heavyweight Title, as Francis Ngannou is considered next in line.
Ranked second in the UFC’s heavyweight rankings, Blaydes (14-2, 1 NC) has been waiting for his chance to fight for gold. He is 6-1 in his last seven fights. “Razor” is on a four-fight win streak, his last bout a unanimous decision win over Alexandr Volkov in June. It was his second win of 2020, as he has rebounded since losing twice to Ngannou.
“I’m happy and excited about it,” Blaydes would state to ESPN. “This is the one I asked for, and I’m happy the UFC listened and made it a main event. I know Derrick Lewis is a name, he has a large following and a win over him will solidify my case as the next one to go after the heavyweight title. I know [Francis] Ngannou is up next, and I want to build my case for after him.”

This would also be the third fight of 2020 for Lewis (24-7, 1 NC). “The Black Beast” is on a three-fight win streak, last fighting at the beginning of August against Aleksei Oleinik. Surviving submissions, Lewis was able to break the record for most UFC heavyweight knockouts (11), earning his 19th win via KO. Lewis is currently ranked fourth in the UFC’s heavyweight rankings.
Lewis has fought for the UFC Heavyweight Title before; losing to Daniel Cormier at UFC 230. Knowing his status, Blaydes requested a fight between the two.
The November 28 event does not have a location or venue as of now. Las Vegas and “Fight Island” are currently options to host the fight.
