Cyborg, 3 Others, Weigh 10+ Percent Over on Fight Night

On Dec. 29, the day of UFC 232, four of the event’s 26 fighters weighed 10 percent or more than what they weighed in at the previous day.

The biggest name on this list is Cris Cyborg, who suffered a shocking, first-round knockout loss at the hands of Amanda Nunes in the co-main event for Cyborg’s UFC Women’s Featherweight Championship. According to an official document from the California State Athletic Commission, Cyborg weighed in at 160.5 pounds on fight night, 10.7 percent more than the 144 pounds she weighed in at the previous day. Nunes weighed in at 156, up 7.6 percent.

The CSAC and its doctors can recommend a fighter move up in weight class if he/she weighs in 10 percent or more the contracted weight limit on fight night. The CSAC has not made any recommendations as of yet, and Cyborg cannot move up more anyways, as 145 is the biggest weight division for women in the UFC.

The other three fighters to weigh in 10 percent or more above their contracted weight were Alexander Volkanovski, Douglas Silva de Andrade and Montel Jackson. Jackson was the sole fighter on the card to miss weight.

CSAC began releasing fight night weight information over the summer. Back in August at UFC 227, the last pay-per-view the UFC held in California prior to UFC 232, just six fighters stayed within the 10 percent limit.
