Cyborg: Belt or Not “I am #1 Female in the World”

Cris Cyborg has so far dominated the featherweight division of women’s MMA. Save for one no contest verdict in 2011, she is currently on a ten-year undefeated streak with the two most recent ones under the UFC banner.

Rightfully, the current Invicta FC 145-pound champion believes that she still holds the number one spot, even after Germaine de Randamie was crowned as the UFC’s inaugural women’s featherweight champion on Saturday night at UFC 208 in Brooklyn.

“ESPN and FOX Sports both have me ranked No. 1 pound-for-pound in women’s mixed martial arts,” Cyborg told FOX Sports. “I haven’t lost in 10 years. Until someone beats me I am No. 1 in the world no matter what belt is around my waist.”

UFC president Dana White recently stated that Cyborg’s USADA case is “looking good”, and promised her a shot at the winner of UFC 208’s headliner fight between de Randamie and Holm. De Randamie, however, stated the she would first intend to have surgery on her hand, which he claimed had torn ligaments.

On Monday, ”The Iron Lady” also released a statement on social media, saying she wants to give Holly Holm a rematch. This came about after she was accused of “intentionally” throwing punches after the bell had sounded in two separate instances during their fight.

Cyborg says she has been in training during the past several months, and is ready to step in and fight when called upon. As for fighting de Randamie, she wants to make it happen at UFC 212 in Brazil on June 3rd.

“I am ready to enter fight camp now. If [de Randamie] is injured and can’t fight I would like a chance to fight Megan Anderson. She is an interim champion for the belt I own and calling out fighters in the UFC.

“It only makes sense if [de Randamie] is not ready to fight that the UFC would offer her a contract and a chance to fight me on the biggest stage, inside the UFC octagon,” Cyborg said. “I think it would be a great addition to the June event in Rio if she’s ready to fight.”
