Cyborg: UFC Botched Women’s 145-lbs. Division
For Cris Cyborg, this has been a week she might want to forget. She has had charges pressed against her, stemming from an attack of Angela Magana at the recent UFC retreat. And UFC women’s featherweight champion Germaine de Ranamie wants nothing to do with her.
Since the inaugural UFC women’s featherweight title bout at UFC 208 back in February, there has been few to no developments in regards to the division. Cyborg, as well as other members of the MMA community, had pressured the UFC into making a division earlier this year.
Prior to the UFC developing such a division, Cyborg only had two UFC bouts — both at catchweight of 140 lbs. This is because it’s been documented Cyborg has troubles dropping to women’s bantamweight, or 135.
Now, Cyborg took to social media and vented, saying the UFC’s women’s featherweight division is a botched effort. She states that UFC owners WME-IMG could have made more money if she had a chance to earn the title.
Makes division for me. Doesn’t give me belt. Can’t wait for me. Makes champion who won’t fight me. Does this sound well planned out?

With the UFC focusing its next season of The Ultimate Fighter on launching a women’s flyweight division, the future of the women’s featherweights, and the title, is still shrouded in mystery.
