Dana: Conor Will Not Be Champion At UFC 223

The status of the UFC lightweight title is still unknown, but by indications from Dana White, Conor McGregor will not be the champion come UFC 223.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, White claimed that he clarified the situation for UFC 223 at the initial press conference in Boston.

“I said in the last press conference that fight will be for the title. It’s not for the interim title, that fight will be for the title,” White told TMZ Sports.

The UFC President claims that the “Notorious one” understands why it will be Khabib Nurmagomedov and “interim” champion Tony Ferguson competing for the “title” at UFC 223.

“Is he upset? No, Conor understands. Conor made a lot of money, he wants some time off, but the division has to go on and the business has to go on.”

White not only claimed that not only does he believe that McGregor may never come back.

“It was August and now it’s September. I say it all the time, when you get that kind of money…Conor might never come back. It’s a lot of money.”
