Dana: Covington, Not Masvidal Gets Shot At Usman

Even though Jorge Masvidal shut the lights out on Darren Till, Colby Covington will be the next man up to face new UFC welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman.

“Masvidal just looked great. He just came off two losses then has a big win over [Darren] Till,” White said of Masvidal’s win at UFC London to Yahoo! Sports. “When Usman jumped over Colby Covington, he was on a win streak, looked incredible against [Rafael dos Anjos], who I respect.

“Ali (Abdelaziz, Usman’s Manager) doesn’t make fights, we do. So no, yeah, Colby’s getting the next fight.”

The win in London did help Masvidal bounce back from back-to-back losses from Stephen Thompson and Demian Maia, but Covington has been long overdue for a title shot.

Covington is looking for a fight this summer with Usman, but has to wait until the champion heals up from an injury suffered at UFC 235 when he took the title from Tyron Woodley.
