Dana: Khabib Could Be Stripped Of Title

Even though UFC 229 would be the second highest gate in company history, with $17.2 million in revenue, Dana White could not enjoy that moment following the event’s main event, which would feature a brawl inside and outside of the Octagon/

“I saw one of Conor’s guys yelling at Khabib,” White said at the UFC 229 post-fight press conference. “And Khabib ran and jumped over the octagon and went after him. Eventually two of Khabib’s guys got into the octagon and one guy hit Conor with some shots. The Nevada State Athletic Commission pulled the footage from us and there’s an investigation going on.”

With the commission holding Nurmagomedov’s $2 million payday, and White refusing to put the belt on him in an attempt to avoid a riot, White is unsure what the future holds for his current lightweight champion.

“We have to see what happens with the Nevada State Athletic Commission,” said White.

“There’s going to be fines. There’s going to be God knows what. Can these guys get visas and get back into the country? I mean Khabib. We’ll see how this thing plays out. I’ve been doing this for 18 years and the biggest night ever and I couldn’t be more disappointed.”

White is also non-committal on if Nurmagomedov will ever get a chance to defend the title he retained with a fourth round submission of McGregor.

“The Nevada State Athletic Commission is going to hand out some sort of fine or suspension and after that we’ll see,” said White. “If he gets suspended, it depends on how long his suspension is and yeah, he’s probably going to get stripped if it’s a long suspension.”
