Dana: Khabib Will Return In September

It seems that UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has a return date in mind, as UFC President Dana White confirmed his next defense.

Speaking on the UFC Unfiltered podcast, White claimed that Nurmagomedov will return to the Octagon in September, following his nine-month suspension for the brawl at UFC 229 in October.

Nurmagomedov originally was going to sit out until November in protest of the 12-month suspensions for two of his teammates for their role in the post-match attack on McGregor.

“He’ll be back in September,” White said to UFC Unfiltered as reported by MMA News. “It’s one of the things with him anyways, he’s on suspension and then he doesn’t fight during Ramadan. That puts him at September.”

While there is no confirmed opponent for Nurmagomedov, the most likely opponent would be the winner of the interim lightweight title fight between Dustin Poirier and featherweight champion Max Holloway at UFC 236.
