Dana: Ngannou Is Not Cormier’s Next Fight

While Francis Ngannou revitalized his career with a 26 second stoppage over former heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez, the win has not guaranteed “the Predator” a second shot at the UFC heavyweight title.

Speaking after the fight with ESPN, UFC President Dana White did confirm that Cormier has been given an “invitation to the big dance” and that his next fight is all but set in stone. While the UFC President did not comment on who’d be challenging the UFC heavyweight champion, many assume that it will be former UFC heavyweight champion and current WWE Universal champion, Brock Lesnar, following Wrestlemania 35 in April.

In regards to Ngannou being in the mix for a future shot, White told ESPN that “Well yeah, Francis is there.” “Cormier’s hurt right now and we have another fight lined up for Cormier first so, we’ll see how this whole thing plays out.”

“[Cormier] is not healthy yet so I would never announce a fight without it being done,” White said when asked who the heavyweight champion fights next.

“It makes no sense. I don’t even know when Cormier’s gonna be ready.”
