Dana Thinks Conor-Cowboy Fight “Makes Sense”
Donald Cerrone wants Conor McGregor, but he refuses to wait around for the former double champion to return.
While the fight was being negotiated prior to McGregor’s hasty retirement earlier this year, Cerrone moved on to face Al Iaquinta this past weekend at UFC Ottawa, getting a win over “Ragin” Al in the main event.
Following the fight, Cerrone called out McGregor for a fight that Dana White feels will happen soon.
“[McGregor] and I are getting together very soon, within the next week, and we’re going to figure out what’s next for him,” UFC President Dana White said on Tuesday’s Jim Rome Show. “I see him fighting this summer.
“The Cerrone fight makes sense. There’s a couple different options out there for him. He was talking about the Cerrone fight at one point. I don’t really know but that fight makes sense.”
While a money fight with Tony Ferguson is certainly on the table for either Cerrone or McGregor, the status of the former interim lightweight champion is up in the air due to mental health issues. While Ferguson was in Vegas this week for potential talks with UFC brass, there is no timeline for a return.
