Dana White Announces Who’s Getting Next For Lightweight And Bantamweight Title Shots

Alexander Volkanovski is looking for more.

UFC President Dana White confirmed that reigning featherweight champion Volkanovski will challenge the winner of Charles Oliveira versus Islam Makhachev, who meets at UFC 280 this weekend.

Volkanovski is on his fourth title defense. He last broke down Max Holloway in their trilogy fight in July by unanimous decision. He has yet to lose in the UFC.

Oliveira is the former lightweight champion; he lost his belt after missing weight in his defense against Justin Gaethje. He dominated Gaethje and earned another chance at the now vacant belt.

Makhachev is one of the promotion’s — and division’s — rising stars. He has not tasted defeat since 2015 where he lost by KO/TKO to Adriano Martins.

White also revealed to Robbie Fox of Barstool Sports that the wi.nner of Petr Yan versus Sean O’Malley will get a shot at the bantamweight title.

“I was trying to be humble, but you’re absolutely right. I f– beat Petr, I’m going to be the champ, I’m going to fight for the belt,” O’Malley told Michael Bisping on Bisping’s YouTube channel.

“That’s what everyone wants. The UFC needs a champion like me. So yeah, you’re 100 percent right. I go out there and starch Petr, he face plants on Oct. 22 in Abu Dhabi, on a massive card, you’re pretty accurate in saying I’ll get the title shot. Especially with Aljo and T.J. being on that card.”
