Dana White: Aspinall Won’t Face Miocic Or Jones Next

Dana White has dismissed the prospect of UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall fighting Stipe Miocic or Jon Jones in his next fight.

Jones was on course to fight Miocic at UFC 295. But Jones, the UFC Heavyweight Champion, pulled out after an injury to his pectoral muscle in sparring. Bones underwent surgery, with his return expected sometime next year. Aspinall called for Jones to be stripped of his belt so he could face Micioc. The winner would then face Jones for the heavyweight championship. White called on Aspinall to remain patient by clarifying that Jones and Miocic will fight next.

“No[fight] And we’re not stripping Jon Jones either. He’s the greatest mixed martial artist of all time. You’re a young guy. You were injured there for a while. You’ll get your shot. Just wait. This fight has to happen and then we’ll figure out what’s next for you… [Miocic] wants Jones and Jones wants Stipe, so it makes sense.” White said

After overcoming a difficult period, Aspinall is desperate for a world title shot. The Brit got a severe knee injury against Curtis Blaydes, as he suffered his defeat with a first-round stoppage. Since then, he has come back stronger. First-round stoppage wins over Marcin Tybura and Sergei Pavlovic, where he earned the interim title, cemented Aspinall’s elite status. Aspinall, unfortunately, will have to wait a little longer for a title unification fight.

Jones vs Miocic has a lot at stake. Jones is considered one of the best MMA fighters ever, while Miocic is regarded as the best heavyweight. There were also reports that the winner could retire. Aspinall may pursue other options instead of waiting, as he is in his prime. Defending his interim heavyweight championship is a possibility, according to White.

“Aspinall could possibly fight again, I don’t know. We’ll see how this plays out going into the next year, but Jones and Stipe, the fight, they both deserve it. Jon Jones got injured, there’s nothing he can do about it. I don’t know, we’ll see what happens in ‘24 If Aspinall wants to fight before that fight happens, why not? Why not let him defend it?” White
