Dana White Claims UFC 254 ‘Trending To Be Biggest Fight We Have Ever Had’
UFC President Dana White is making a serious claim going into UFC 254.
This Saturday, October 24, Khabib Nurmagomedov will put his UFC Lightweight Championship on the line. He’ll meet interim titleholder Justin Gaethje in the main event of UFC 254. This will be Nurmagomedov’s first bout since September 2019 when he submitted Dustin Poirier.
During an interview with TMZ Sports, White discussed how UFC 254 is trending and it’s looking to be a huge success (h/t MMAFighting.com).
“This thing is trending off the charts for us right now. So, today is Tuesday, it’s the end of Tuesday going into Wednesday, on Monday, this thing was trending to be the biggest fight we have ever had. Not Thursday, not Friday, Monday.” It is trending bigger than (UFC 229) right now. Will the trend hold? One of the things that is a big negative for us is that it is not in primetime at home and it is hard to message that to people.”
White isn’t guaranteeing that UFC 254 will top UFC 229 in terms of pay-per-view buys but he is quite happy with the direction that it’s going in. UFC 254 will take place at 2 p.m. ET, which could hurt its PPV potential. Still, Khabib has emerged as one of the biggest stars in the UFC thanks in part to his feud with Conor McGregor.
Nurmagomedov vs. Gaethje is a highly-anticipated title unification bout. While Gaethje is the underdog, many believe he could have the fighting style to thwart “The Eagle.” Gaethje’s standup skills and takedown defense are what has fight fans eager to see whether or not it’s enough to solve the puzzle of Nurmagomedov.
