Dana White Expects Jones vs. Miocic In The Summer, Winner Should Face Aspinall

The UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones will defend his title against Stipe Miocic in the summer.

That is according to Dana White. Bones withdrew from the original date scheduled for UC 295 on November 11, 2023, after injuring his pectoral muscle in sparring. Sergei Pavlovich vs Tom Aspinall was added as a co-main event, while Jiri Prochazka faced Alex Pereira in the main event. Jones underwent surgery with a view to returning this year.

“I guess it will be Stipe and I at a later date, and that’s my plan. Hopefully, these other heavyweights, Aspinall and Sergei, put it on a great show for you guys. I may even show up to the event to watch. But I love you all, and hey, your boy Jon Jones is doing OK,” Jones said

His comeback was delayed after Jones underwent elbow surgery.

“Back out here in California with Dr. [Neal] ElAttrache, this time instead of doing a pec repair, we are working on my left elbow. I’m actually about one hour off the table. We had a two-hour surgery shaving down some bone spurs. The good news is it’s about a 10-week healing process, and I’m out for months anyway, because of this pec surgery, so I thought I’d just kill two birds and get this elbow taken care of once and for all,” Jones revealed

Now, White expects the fight to happen in the summer.

“Jones and Stipe will happen his summer. The winner of this fight will have to fight Tom Aspinall,” White stated

UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall will welcome the news. The Brit had been calling for Jones to be stripped so he could face Miocic. That would allow the winner to face Jones. White shut that down, leaving Aspinall to defend his interim title or sit on the sidelines. But now White expects the winner of Jones-Miocic to fight Aspinall, minimizing doubts that the winner would retire.

“It’s interesting [on the retirement aspect]. I think it depends on who wins. I mean, either guy that wins, how do you not fight Aspinall?” White added
