Dana White Optimistic About UFC Event Happening In Africa
UFC President Dana White has recently revealed that the organization is in serious talks to bring the event to Africa.
“We literally had a meeting the other day, and we’re seriously talking about Africa now,” White told reporters at the UFC 279 post-fight press conference.
“We’re starting to look at venues and cities to hold an event. Africa is going to happen very soon.”
The biggest talking point is to bring the promotion to Johannesburg. White has talked about it previously and wants to do it before calling an end to his promotional career.
“I do believe we will go to Johannesburg someday. I think that’s going to happen. We have to let this whole Francis (Ngannou) and contract all play out. Would I love to see it? Absolutely,” he said.
MMA Junkie Radio has already spoken to Marc Ratner, UFC Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, about potentially bringing the event to Africa. Ratner specifically mentioned Johannesburg as one of the landing spots for promotion.
The UFC has never hosted an event in Africa before.
However, the African talent in UFC has definitely come to the surface in the past few years.
Israel Adesanya (Nigeria) and Francis Ngannou (Cameroon) are the two UFC champions from Africa currently.
