Dana White Slams Oscar De La Hoya’s Comeback Plans
UFC President Dana White isn’t a fan of Oscar De La Hoya’s plans to return to the boxing ring.
White and De La Hoya haven’t exactly been chummy. The two have been at odds with the UFC boss hurling personal digs at De La Hoya’s past issues with drug use. At one point, De La Hoya even held an MMA event in an effort to compete with the UFC but only one card ever came to fruition.
With De La Hoya set for a comeback fight on July 3, it’s got the combat sports world talking. Triller CEO Ryan Kavanaugh said he hopes to get De La Hoya to fight a big UFC name. White responded to this when speaking to reporters and he ripped the idea (via BoxingScene.com).
“To box De La Hoya? Come on guys, this [expletive] is getting silly. You guys just want to ask me silly questions. You have got a 50-year-old guy [expletive] boxing, and you guys are actually talking about it and covering press conferences? Come on, come on you guys.”
White was initially against boxing legend Mike Tyson’s November return. Tyson ended up calling White to let him know how he felt about his comments. White said the conversation made him a believer.
“Somebody asked me at a press conference about it and I said ‘I don’t like it, I don’t want them to do it, this and that…’ Then he called me and was like: ‘Listen man, we’ve been friends for a long time but I’m a grown ass man, if I wanna fight I’m gonna f–king fight! Don’t be f–king negative about my fight.’ And I said ‘you know what, you’re right. You won’t hear a f–king peep out of me again.’ Then when I watched the fight I thought he looked really f–king good.”
