Dana White Thinks Kamaru Usman Will Be In GOAT Conversation
UFC President Dana White believes fight fans and media members will put Kamaru Usman in the “Greatest of All Time” discussion eventually.
Usman is set to put the UFC Welterweight Championship on the line against Gilbert Burns this Saturday night, February 13. The title fight will headline UFC 258 inside the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. This will be Usman’s third title defense.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, White heaped praise on Usman and predicted that “The Nigerian Nightmare” will one day be in the MMA GOAT conversation (h/t BJPenn.com).
“Usman’s one of those quiet killers, man. This guy doesn’t go out beating his chest. He’s not out there acting like a lunatic. He keeps his head down, he works hard, and look what creeps up on us: He’s about to beat GSP’s record. If he can get through Gilbert Burns on Saturday night, which is going to be a tough fight, he’s a guy that will just keep grinding, and one day we’re all going to wake up and go ‘oh wow’ and we’re all going to be talking about GOAT status for this guy.”
Usman last competed back in July 2020. He successfully defended his 170-pound gold against Jorge Masvidal, winning via unanimous decision. Usman was coming off a 2019 “Fight of the Year” effort against Colby Covington, which he won by way of fifth-round TKO.
His next challenger has been climbing the ranks at welterweight. Burns is riding a six-fight winning streak. In his most recent outing, he earned a unanimous decision victory over former UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley.
