Dana White Threatened Resignation Over Joe Rogan’s 2022 Controversy

Dana White recalls standing by Joe Rogan, who could have lost his UFC commentating job.

The CEO of the UFC recalled Rogan facing intense scrutiny following some footage circulating on social media showing him using various slurs. One video allegedly showed Rogan comparing a black neighbourhood to the ‘Planet of the Apes’ film.

“I know that to most people, there’s no context where a White person is ever allowed to say that, never mind publicly on a podcast, and I agree with that. Now, I haven’t said it in years. I certainly would never want to offend someone for entertainment with something as stupid as racism,” Rogan said

Rogan was in danger of losing his Spotify deal as the company considered dropping his podcast. Speculation also emerged that he may lose his commentary job with the UFC. Once White recognized the danger, he stood by Rogan and threatened to resign in protest.

“Anybody who is with me, has been with me, knows. When you’re with me, you’re with me, it’s a two-way street. It’s not a one-way street. I’m one of these guys that is just going to roll over. It’s like going through COVID, I wasn’t laying any of these people off. Some of these people have been with me for 20 years, we’re going to lay them off?

“It’s just never, none of that kind of stuff is going to happen while I’m here. I can’t say what’s going to happen when I leave. But when I’m here, the people who are with me and have been with me, they know exactly what’s up. Joe knows what’s up, and again it’s a two-way street. Joe Rogan has been very loyal to me. I am very loyal to Joe Rogan,” White said
