Daniel Cormier Joins WWE As Guest Referee For Seth Rollins Vs. Matt Riddle
Former UFC champion Daniel Cormier is making his appearance in the WWE.
But the 43-year-old won’t be wrestling inside the ring. Instead, he’ll be a special guest referee for Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle’s match at WWE’s Extreme Rules on October 8.
“The Rollins-Riddle feud has gotten very intense and personal,” Cormier told MMA insider Ariel Helwani.
“There’s only one person qualified enough to oversee this brutal match at Extreme Rules, and it’s me. I’ll see you guys in Philly next Saturday.”
Cormier has been a fan of the WWE for a while now.
He attended WrestleMania 31 in 2015 when Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Then, in 2020, the former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion told Sports Illustrated that he was in talks with WWE about doing something with the company.
“We’ve been talking,” Cormier said. “We’ve spoken to some of the people over there in very, very early conversations. WWE is a company I’ve watched and loved my entire life.
“Put me at the commentary table,” Cormier says. “Let me call the matches for six months and tell you how great these wrestlers are in the ring. I would love that, and I wouldn’t be faking it. WWE is something I’ve loved my entire life.”
Cormier posted the news on his Instagram, assuring fans that he will be “fair” as a referee.
