Daniel Cormier Makes Bold Prediction On Khamzat Chimaev
Daniel Cormier has made quite the prediction on Khamzat Chimaev.
Chimaev is gaining steam at a rapid rate. While some thought people were jumping the gun after Chimaev’s first two bouts under the UFC banner, there ended up being more believers after the Dagestani prospect fighting out of Sweden slept Gerald Meerschaert in 17 seconds at UFC Vegas 11.
During an edition of the DC & Helwani Show, Cormier looked inside his crystal ball and saw some great things in Chimaev’s future (h/t ESPN MMA).

“By 2021, Khamzat Chimaev is fighting for the belt or is the champ. In 2021, Khamzat Chimaev is the double champ. 170 and 185… He goes up and down. He can fight everybody.”
UFC President Dana White has expressed his excitement when it comes to Chimaev. The UFC boss believes Chimaev has star potential and wants him to return to the Octagon as soon as possible. Chimaev may even have another fight before taking on Demian Maia.
Chimaev got his UFC run started by submitting John Phillips in the second round. Just 10 days later, he stopped Rhys McKee in the first round via TKO. His quick knockout win over Meerschaert comes less than two months after his last outing.
With nine pro fights on his resume, Chimaev is perfect at 9-0. He has picked up six of those victories via knockout and three have come by way of submission. That means Chimaev has yet to go the distance as a pro. Many are of the belief that he has the cardio to go the distance whether it’s three rounds or five.
